प्रारम्भिक जीवन

Sumnima Tuladhar was appointed as the Ambassador of Nepal to Denmark by the President of Nepal, the Right Honourable Ramchandra Paudel, on 22 November 2024. She formally assumed office on 7 February 2025. In addition to her primary role, she serves as the non-resident Ambassador to Norway, Sweden, Finland, Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania, and Iceland.

Tuladhar is a pioneering child rights defender in Nepal, with extensive experience in addressing critical child protection issues. Her areas of expertise include child sexual abuse, street-connected children, gender justice, trafficking in women and children, the promotion of child agency, the impact of armed conflict on children, and child mental health.  She has conducted and published numerous research studies and articles related to child rights and protection. As a leading expert in this field, she is actively involved in policy advocacy, partnership with various government agencies, strategic networking and the implementation of innovative child protection programs.

Her commitment to child and women's rights spans over 37 years, beginning at the age of 15. Throughout this time, she has worked in various capacities to promote and safeguard the rights of vulnerable groups. A former student activist, Ms. Tuladhar participated in Nepal's historic pro-democracy movement and during which she was arrested. Her activism continued through her engagement with civil society networks and the women’s movement.

She has played a vital role in numerous civil society initiatives promoting gender justice and advancing feminist and child rights causes in Nepal. During Nepal’s decade-long armed conflict, Ms. Tuladhar worked in conflict-affected districts such as Rolpa, Rukum, and Salyan, leading transformative social initiatives and conducting field research. She organized and implemented psychosocial and humanitarian support programs for hundreds of children in conflict zones.

Her leadership extends to national and international platforms. She has served on the governing boards of numerous prominent organizations and networks, including ECPAT International, the Alliance Against Trafficking in Women and Children (AATWIN), the Women’s Network for Peace (Shanti Malika), the Beyond Beijing Committee, the Duke of Edinburgh Award (Saksham Yuva Nepal), International Child Development Initiatives (ICDI), and the Nepal Transition to Peace Institute (NTTP)—an institution co-founded by renowned peace facilitators, the late Padma Ratna Tuladhar and Daman Nath Dhungana.

Ms. Tuladhar's leadership has been pivotal in launching national-level interventions aimed at protecting children affected by armed conflict and assisting women and children during natural disasters and the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2015, she played a key role in establishing Nepal’s first child and adolescent psychiatry and mental health service. Furthermore, she served as an advisor to the "GREEN CHAKRA: Climate Justice for Children" campaign, a youth-led climate justice initiative.

She holds a Master’s degree in English Literature from Tribhuvan University and has received professional training in a wide range of areas, including advocacy through action, alcohol and drug policy in development contexts, child protection, conflict transformation, gender justice, and psychosocial counseling. She has represented Nepal at numerous international and United Nations forums, advocating for the rights of children and the advancement of gender justice.

Ambassador Tuladhar draws profound inspiration from her father, the late Mr. Padma Ratna Tuladhar—a respected national figure known for his unwavering dedication to human rights, peacebuilding, and the empowerment of Dalit, Janajati, and other marginalized communities in Nepal. She is married to Mr. Gauri Pradhan, a prominent human rights defender, and they have one son, Shikhar Sambad Pradhan.
